About

Vinyl Spin started in 2020 as a pandemic hobby, sharing records from a personal collection through photography and the stories and history behind each album.

As social media evolved, so did Vinyl Spin. Photography turned into on-camera storytelling, while the brand expanded offline through a pop-up record store at Vancouver events including Khatsahlano Music Festival.

In 2023, Vinyl Spin launched Streamed Wheat: The Guess Who Livestream, a live-only, regularly programmed show that welcomed 50,000+ live viewers and generated more than one million video views. The series earned coverage from the Winnipeg Free Press and recognition from The Guess Who, Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman. Vinyl Spin's content has also caught the attention of the official Beatles social media team.

Today, Vinyl Spin is an independent music media brand focused on original video and YouTube storytelling, exploring everything from The Beatles and The Beach Boys to Canadian artists like The Guess Who, Chilliwack and Terry Jacks. Guests have included Howie Vickers, original lead singer of The Collectors; Larry Hennessey, manager of Terry Jacks; and Vancouver record store owner Rob Frith, whose discovery of The Beatles' Decca audition tapes made headlines around the world.

At its heart, Vinyl Spin is still about what it was in 2020: discovering the stories behind the music and building a community of people who love talking about it.

In 2026, Vinyl Spin founder and host Josh Mackenzie was named a runner-up in iHeartRadio's Top Host competition.
